Paradise Row

Meet the Maker: Nika Diamond-Krendel of Paradise Row London

Nika started Paradise Row after inspiration hit while living in East London. Nika married together the area's rich history of leather manufacturing and fashion to create a brand which celebrates the traditional artisanal method of vegetable tanning leather, but utilises it to create contemporary designs. Since starting Paradise Row, Nika has been joined in the business by husband Nicholas, together the couple continue to create timeless leather goods to enhance any home.

What is it that makes your leather goods different?

We love the quality and long-lasting material of leather, especially vegetable-tanned leather and we felt there was a gap in the market for a leather goods brand with a contemporary design and aesthetic. Only around ten percent of leather brands use vegetable tanned leather, an old artisanal method where hides are stored in pits, with vegetation on top. Vegetable tanned leather is the most expensive and sustainable type of leather on the market, each piece of which is unique and which ages beautifully over time.

What is it that stands out to you about The Wedding Present Company?

The Wedding Present Company is all about quality. The curated selection is all about seasonless style where the products stand the test of time. As a husband and wife based business, we love the idea of a couple starting out their married life together and taking our timeless pieces with them on their journey.

Paradise Row is an emerging British leather goods brand, and one of only a few British brands to manufacture in London.

What are your top tips for laying a table?

More is more; what we love about Paradise Row's collection is that you can add layer upon layer with our products without a table ever looking messy or domineering.

The tableware range also works well in both formal and informal settings and classic and modern styles, whether it be a summer BBQ lunch sitting on hay bales like we did at the PX Plus Festival at Duchess Farms, or a super snazzy tasting menu like we did for Leandro Carreira's award-winning restaurant Londrino. As the days get longer and the weather warms up, combine with posies and a gingham tablecloth for the ultimate in laid-back summer luxury.

What's your favourite product to date?

Probably the 'working from home' leather desk mat. We launched it coincidentally in the year of 2020 when everyone was being asked to work from home and people started to think about ways they could make their home office more comfortable and inspiring. It seems to have served people well during the pandemic.

What do you like buying your friends as wedding presents?

We love wedding presents which subtly enhance your home and provide that 'cozy' feeling that everyone is after. Items such as lamps and cushions provide a warm and secure feeling. We also like to add luxurious textures which elevate a room in a home, such as our leather coasters for the coffee table or a trinket tray for an entrance hall or bedside table.

What WPC presents would you style with your own Paradise Row pieces?

We are absolutely in love with the Mila London Constantia dinner plate's intricate artwork which would go well with our petroleum blue place mats.

We would pair the classic Royal Scott Crystal London tumblers with our whiskey tan set of 12 leather coasters to give that hotel bar feel for when you have company over.

This Luna desk is a really stunning piece to have in your home and to complete the look, we would add a black leather desk mat and matching pen pot.

What does the future hold for Paradise Row?

Paradise Row started as a handbag/fashion brand and then evolved into a broader leather goods brand and retail destination. We see the future for Paradise Row as being a luxury lifestyle brand, based around not just its products but its story and love for culture and the arts. We'd love to do more projects in the hospitality space or maybe even have our own venue one day, building on our collaborations with top hotels and restaurants such as The Conrad St James's and The Harwood Arms in Fulham. We have even recently launched a collaboration with Soho Home's flagship store on the King's Road.
